A painful, burning feeling in the mid-chest, behind your breastbone, rising from the lower tip of your breastbone toward your throat, caused by refluxed stomach acid that touches the lining of your esophagus. Also called acid indigestion, acid regurgitation, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
