Programs
NIDDK offers research training and mentorship in leading-edge labs and clinical facilities at NIDDK campuses in Bethesda, MD or Phoenix, AZ. Applications may be due months in advance.
Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP)
An opportunity for graduate students to perform research at NIH labs and facilities while enrolled in a doctoral program in the U.S. or abroad.
NIH Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research (SIP)
An opportunity for students in high school (18+), college, graduate, or professional school to spend a summer working shoulder to shoulder with visionary researchers and celebrated investigators in the Intramural Research Program at the NIH.
NIDDK Intramural Research Program (IRP) Postdoctoral Fellowships
An opportunity for recent doctoral degree recipients to spend one or three years (no more than five years) performing full-time research in the Intramural Research Program at the NIH.
Biophysics Fellows Research Conference at the NIH
An opportunity for up to 25 predoctoral candidates and postdoctoral biophysics researchers—from the U.S. and abroad who are not already members of an Intramural fellowship program at NIH—to explore NIH.
If you’re enrolled in a master’s program and interested in interning at NIH during the academic year, you may be eligible for the Academic Internship Program. Doctoral students are not eligible to apply.
Already Have a Master’s Degree?
You may be eligible for:
- NIDDK Distinguished Postbaccalaureate Scholars Program: This cohort program provides recent college graduates the opportunity to pursue full-time research for 1-2 years. The program meets monthly for career and professional development events and identifies potential mentors for participants. Individuals with a demonstrated commitment to diversity are encouraged to apply.
- Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Awards (IRTAs): Recent college graduates who are planning to apply to graduate or professional (medical, dental, or pharmacy) school spend 1-2 years working side-by-side with leading scientists in biomedical research.
